Upon learning of the awarding of the chair, Peyton Young - who is Black Professor of Economics Emeritus (and currently the James Meade Professor of Economics at Oxford) - commented: "During my years at Hopkins, Edi was an exceptionally stimulating colleague who is clearly a theorist of the first rank. It is a fitting tribute that he is the new holder of the Black Chair." We congratulate our colleague Edi Karni and express our continued appreciation to Scott and Barbara Black for their generosity and foresight in supporting research and teaching in economics at Hopkins.
