Using your own package with winedt/Miktex
Every computer in the lab contains a free Latex distribution called Miktex as well as the WinEdt text processor which is linked to this distribution. The Miktex distribution includes the Beamer presentation package which enables you to design slides in Latex.
Install Latex: If you would like to have a software installation on your home computer that is similar to the one in the lab, please refer to the following links:
Text editors: WinEdt (same as in the lab but not free - however, it is preconfigured to work with Miktex), Emacs (free, versatile, very customizable but with a bit of a learning curve), Textpad
Latex distribution: Miktex(free)
Postscript editor and viewer: Ghostscript (editor), Ghostview (viewer)(free)

Easy STEPS FOR Using the lecture package:
First, download the new texmf-cdcpublicuse.zip every time Dr. Carroll updates it from: TEXMF
Unzip the file. Place it in the Tex\Latex directory in Miktex(If you accepted the default location when you installed MiKTeX, this folder is probably C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.5\tex\latex. (If you have an older MiKTeX installation, this folder is probably C:\texmf\tex\latex.) ), refresh FNDB in Miktex (you can do this by clicking start menu, finding miktex, then clicking setting) and compile the document with WinEdt.
Note This website will be helpful on how to use your own package.
